LINKSYS WIRELESS ROUTER NETWORK SETTINGS

< Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router>

Note: First, be sure that one end of a network cable is plugged into one of the four local area ports (marked "1," "2," "3," or "4") on the back of the Linksys Wireless Router and the other end is plugged into the network port on the back or side of your computer. You can disconnect this cable after you've set everything up, and your wireless network is working properly. Only if all your machines are going to be on wireless, if you have a desktop that needs plugged in, just put the ethernet cord into one of the ports labeled 1-4.

Here is how it works:

1) Open your Internet Explorer program.

2) In the Address Box above, type  http://192.168.1.1  and then click on Go, or press the Enter key on the keyboard. A box should appear in the center of the screen asking for your User Name and Password.

3) Put admin in the User Name box. Type admin in the Password box, then click on OK, or press the Enter key on the keyboard.

Note: To change the password from admin to something more secure, do the following:

1) Click on the Administration tab when the Linksys Wireless Router Setup page appears.

2) Type in the password you want in the Password: box next to Local Router Access.

3) Click on Save Settings.

4) Be sure you remember or write down this password

5)I took a screenshot of the screen you will see.

You will have to click on the Drop Down menu that reads "Obtain Automatically" (in my picture it shows "Static Ip") and select the "Static Ip" selection as the image shows. It will then give you a place to enter your IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and DNS Servers. Put the numbers you received from us for your dsl service in the corresponding boxes. Then in the Highlighted box on the bottom you will put in "host name" and "domain name" you can use your last name for those. Then go to the bottom of the page and hit save. That's it, You've programmed your router!!
